# Get Member

> Get one person or agent in your organisation, with their roles and teams.

> **Preview.** This endpoint is available to organisations in the Wordsmith MCP pilot. Other organisations receive `403 mcp_not_enabled`. See the [preview overview](/preview).

Returns one [member](/proposed/objects#organisation): a person or an agent in your organisation. [List Users](/api-reference/directory/list-users) returns the first five fields for everyone. This endpoint adds roles and teams.

`predefined_roles` holds the built-in roles (`viewer`, `full_user`, `admin`). `custom_role_ids` holds your organisation's own roles; resolve their names with [List Roles](/api-reference/organisation/list-roles). `team_ids` lists the teams the member belongs to directly, among the teams the caller can see. It is empty when teams are not enabled for your organisation.

## Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with `directory:read`. The caller must also be allowed to see the members list in Settings.

## Path parameters

**user\_id** `string` *required*

The member's id, from [List Users](/api-reference/directory/list-users).

## Response

Returns `200` with the [member](/proposed/objects#organisation). Suspended members are returned too, with `is_suspended: true`.

## Errors

| Status | `error_code` | When |
| - | - | - |
| 403 | `insufficient_scope` | The OAuth token does not hold `directory:read`. |
| 404 | `resource_not_found` | No member of your organisation has this id, or the caller cannot see the members list. Deleted members are not found. |
