Delete a team and withdraw the access it granted.

Deletes a team permanently. You cannot undo this.

Access granted through the team is withdrawn. The team stops counting at once, so its members immediately lose anything that was shared only with the team. Wordsmith then removes the team from each resource’s sharing list in the background. Members keep access they hold directly or through another team. The members themselves, and the resources shared with the team, are not deleted.

Sub-teams are not deleted. They move up to the deleted team’s parent, or to the top level if it had none. Their members lose what reached them through the deleted team, but keep what is shared with each sub-team and with the teams above it.

Authentication

Requires an API key, or an OAuth token with directory:admin. The caller must also be an organisation admin, or hold a role with the matching permission. directory:admin is never granted by default. It only narrows what the person who approved it can already do, so a team admin’s token can edit their own teams and nothing else. Admin changes are not available through the MCP server.

An admin of the team can also delete it.

Errors

Status	error_code	When
403	insufficient_scope	The OAuth token does not hold directory:admin.
403	forbidden	The caller can see the team but cannot manage it.
404	resource_not_found	No team in your organisation has this id, or the caller cannot see it. Also returned when teams are not enabled for your organisation.
